Thanks to the fact that they don’t have a supreme law, they still think they are part of the same existence and have the same goal. So they work together in harmony.
It is actually a good thing that he has many consciousnesses. When one consciousness is down, the others can take over the job of directing the body.
Plus, with many consciousnesses working together, they can use all of the techniques of each pathway together easily. This way, none of the pathways they use will go to waste because their mind is preoccupied with doing other things.
All of these are great benefits. And the price he has to pay for it is constant arguing and talking in his mind.
The divine flesh is also talking in his mind. It is constantly droning on and on, hoping to make him mentally fatigued and then use that opportunity to take over his body. But that is not going to happen at this rate.
The four souls are talking so much that they have overshadowed the droning of the divine flesh with their mental activity. They can’t hear what the divine flesh is saying at all.
All four of them are bearing the burden of the droning divine flesh, so the pressure has reduced drastically. The droning is not enough to make one of them tired.
And even if one of the souls gets tired, there are three others waiting to take over control of the body. It is not the turn of the divine flesh to take control of the body at all.
While the four souls were arguing with each other, his body was also undergoing some changes. His hair and eyes turned red. His body also began to molt.
His body shed a layer of skin. His muscles and bones changed, shifted, elongated, and hardened in some places. His blood and even his digestive system changed.
He was officially becoming a killer. Because of the divine flesh that he assimilated, his existence is becoming similar to that of the powerful being whose existence was chopped up for him to eat.
This is a normal process that every godclad will go through. The stronger they get, the more similar they will be to the origin of their power.
This process will be slightly different for the path of undying, though. After all, that authority of the path of undying belongs to him now.
It is not a temporary ownership that other true gods possess. His existence has changed so much that the authority of the path of the undying believes that he is the original owner of the pathway. That’s the power of adaptation.
Legion-1 thought to himself, “Adaptation in the past while evolution in the future. They are different, but they created the aspect of Independence both in the past and in the future. When the future and past are linked together, the path to become an Absolute is then forged. I just have to thread it to the finish line, and I’ll become an Absolute.”
What he said made the three other consciousnesses silent for a while. They felt solemn because of the immensity of what’s at stake for them.
But their solemnity didn’t last for long. They began to argue shortly after.
Legion-4 asked, “What do you mean, “I’ll become an Absolute?” Don’t you mean “We’ll become an Absolute?”
Legion-5 asked him, “What’s the difference?”
Legion-4 shot back, “It makes a lot of difference because either all of us become an Absolute or just one of us becomes an Absolute.”
Legion-6 thought about it and said, “In that case, the statement should be we’ll become Absolutes. Because it is either one of us becomes an Absolute and the rest perish, or all of us become the same Absolute, or each of us becomes separate Absolutes.”
Legion-1 didn’t reply. He only chuckled and said sarcastically, “How I’ve missed you guys.”
The others didn’t care about his sarcasm. They continued to argue with each other and with him. They just gained the ability to think, so they wanted to take full advantage of it.
While this was going on, the custodian and the captain were discussing outside the room he was jailed in.
Captain Sheckel asked, “Do you think he will make it?”
The custodian nodded in reply. “He should make it. He has a determined mind.”
Then he sighed and said, “I just hope that his determination is not used against him. After all, it is very difficult to resist the allure of power.”
The captain said, “The investigation into his background came back mostly clean but complicated. He survived a massacre of his whole village. He is hell-bent on finding the person that killed everyone and wants to take revenge.”
She also sighed and said, “But I don’t know if I want him to succeed or not. If he succeeds, then it would seem like I’m using his pain for my own gain. If he doesn’t succeed, then I’ve let him die because I had a use for him.”
The custodian shook his head and said, “I don’t care about that. I only care about his potential, and by the looks of it, he has a lot of potential. His mind is very strong. I tried to trick him many times, but he didn’t budge. If he can perform like that with the path of killing, then he will soar.”
She nodded. But she wasn’t so optimistic about his chances. She said, “If he survives, I have to give him more opportunity to be a killer. If I don’t, he will suffer a backlash. But if I do, it will be as if I am using his life and death for my gain.”
The custodian looked at her and asked, “What has gotten into you lately? Why do you care about all of these?”
She sighed and said, “I’m having a crisis of faith. I need to iron out my moral compass, or I will suffer a backlash. If I succeed, I might advance and grow stronger.”
