“Ooohhh!” The cheers from the soldiers erupted the moment they saw the elite class alien was defeated.
Those cheers were enough for Lena to understand what happened.
She was still occupied with all the warrior class aliens, but the moment the elite class disappeared, the path for Duke Coline to dominate the entire battlefield had been opened up.
A flame shower reached her location, causing a series of explosions that killed two warrior class aliens and injured four others.
With the reduction of their numbers, Lena sped up, taking down the warrior class aliens one by one.
“That should be enough.” Duke Coline squinted his eyes. “I use a bit too much ena to kill that elite class alien. Can you guys do the rest for me?”
His familiars nodded.
With his familiars rampaging on the battlefield, the battle should end quickly. So Duke Coline couldn’t help but look at the area the soldiers protected. He could also see some aliens sticking to his barrier. If not for his barrier, the city would have faced a disaster.
“This should be enough. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem the insects that the boy mentioned have entered the kingdom. Let’s see…”
Duke Coline was wondering if there was any soldier that got hit by the insect.
However, he didn’t have to search for long.
He could find a bunch of them scattered around the dock.
“This is…” Duke Coline moved toward one of the soldier corpses who had been attacked by the Shan and killed. His head was severed, and the insect had been crushed.
But when he inspected the guy’s head, he noticed that the back of the head was punctured by the insect. The brain had turned dark as well. It was clear something had happened to their brain.
The people who were still controlled had lost the light in their eyes. They continued onward, trying to kill other humans.
Other soldiers were trying to call for them, but to no avail. They had no other choice but to kill them.
Even when they were beheaded, the insects were still alive. They tried to go out and find a new host, but the soldiers were swift enough to kill them before anything could happen.
“…” Duke Coline’s expression turned grim. “To think that there is an alien like this. Is it truly because of the ruin? Or is it because of this natural disaster that the aliens are starting to bring out their unique species?”
Duke Coline closed his eyes with a pained expression. It was clear that the world would become more chaotic than this.
There were some more insects in the air, so he planned to kill them personally. But before that, he had to visit Nathan.
“!!!” Nathan had switched his focus back to the aliens after seeing how the elite class alien died, but it didn’t take too long before Fenrir warned him as Duke Coline appeared right before his eyes.
“Duke…” Nathan squinted his eyes.
“You have worked hard. Let me handle the rest.” Duke Coline waved his hand. “By the way, have you captured the aliens?”
Nathan pointed at Anubis not far from them. There was a huge sphere made of bandages floating next to him.
Noticing their gazes, Anubis turned around, finding Nathan waving his hand as if he was calling for him.
Once regrouped, Duke Coline asked, “Have you captured those insects?”
Anubis pointed at the sphere. “There are ten of them inside. Is that enough?”
“Yes. That should be enough.” Duke Coline nodded. With a wave of his hand, a translucent barrier formed around the bandage. “It’s fine now. I will be the one carrying them from now on. Thank you.”
Anubis nodded and recalled his bandage as the insects tried to get out, only to be stopped by the barrier.
Now that he got the specimen, Duke Coline lifted up his wand. Ena started to gather around Selena and Flora and raised them up into the air and moved them toward Duke Coline and Nathan.
Before they could speak, Duke Coline had cast another spell, burning the aliens on the right side of the dock.
“This should be enough to clean them up.” Duke Coline smiled, satisfied. “The battle is about to be concluded. With my familiars and Duchess Lena, it shouldn’t take too long to defeat all the aliens.”
Nathan nodded. Even though Nathan had achieved a great thing, he couldn’t help but feel bad. He might have kept the casualty minimum, but if he hadn’t come here, there would have been no casualties.
It felt like he had just done something he hated when reading stories, which was the casualty among common people because of the selfishness of a person.
“What’s wrong?” Duke Coline asked, noticing his sadness. “This is a great victory. Why are you looking like that?”
“It’s nothing.” Nathan shook his head helplessly.
“Are you concerned about the damage? You don’t have to.”
“No. I’m just thinking that if I didn’t come here, those people wouldn’t have to die.” Nathan let out a long sigh.
“…” Selena and Flora exchanged looks.
“Hahahaha. Despite being that talented, you are soft.” Duke Coline laughed. “That’s not how you should think, boy. I don’t know much about the ruin, but that place has already been there for a few hundred years.
“Even if you were not present, the ruins were still a ticking time bomb, ready to explode any time. The chance increases after this volcanic eruption as the aliens start coming at us with much more intensity.
“What if those aliens came when no one expected it? It would have been a much bigger disaster. This city couldn’t hold them back and those aliens would wreak havoc in the kingdom.
“Just look at the current situation. I don’t think the casualty reaches a thousand. Meanwhile, we should have no problem in stopping the rest.
“You didn’t kill those few hundred soldiers. You saved thousands, tens of thousands… if not hundreds of thousands of the people of the kingdom.
“It’s something you should be proud of.” Duke Coline smiled.
