Wu Junfen might scold and treat Yu Dong harshly but she cared for her granddaughter more than she had cared for that unfilial son of hers. If not for the fact that she was killed before her time, she would have never left Yu Dong alone in her past life. It was bad enough that she had died so painfully the last time, so why did her granddaughter have to suffer like this in the present?
Seeing Wu Junfen cry, Yu Dong felt uncomfortable and guilty; if she had known that she would cry, then Yu Dong would have warned her beforehand. She said to Wu Junfen, “I am sorry; I will be careful next time.”
“After all this, is there a next time!?” Wu Junfen snapped at Yu Dong; she couldn’t help but feel that the woman was way too careless and thrill-seeking. How can she not care about her life and death?
Yu Dong: “…”
“No more next time,” Yu Dong agreed with Wu Junfen, as she knew that if she dared to quibble with her, then Wu Junfen wouldn’t hold back from teaching her a lesson. After all, who asked this woman to be her grandmother?
As Yu Dong didn’t want to be smacked on her bottom in front of everyone, she could only agree with whatever Wu Junfen said to her.
Wu Junfen cried for a while before calming down. She then looked at Yu Dong and asked her, “So what’s the matter? Why did you call me here? I don’t believe that you called me because you were missing me, right?”
Wu Junfen didn’t tell Yu Dong that when she was coming here, her husband threatened to kill himself. He even took their daughter to his maternal house and was so angry that he didn’t even see her when she was leaving. Wu Junfen knew that her husband was doing all that because he wanted to stop her and he was not completely heartless but she had no choice.
She knew that Yu Dong would not have called her here if she did not need her help.
“Its like this,” Yu Dong didn’t waste Wu Junfen’s time and told her the truth about the current situation. By the time she finished speaking, Wu Junfen’s eyebrows were furrowed so hard that it looked like she could squeeze a fly to death.
She said to Yu Dong, “You mean to say that this master has refined a parasite that can live off the flesh of the dead bodies and even control them?”
“Yes,” Yu Dong nodded and Wu Junfen pursed her lips.
She looked around the eerily calm base and remarked, “Do you really think that if I had an army of dead, I would wait till the next morning to attack?”
Yu Dong smiled and then responded, “Isn’t that why I called you here, Granny Fen?”
Wu Junfen glanced at Yu Dong; even though she had lost the youth and joyful glimmer from her face after losing an eye, she was still her little Dong Dong.
She raised her hand and pinched Yu Dong’s cheeks before saying, “I am not that old, you idiot.”
On the other side, far away from the base camp, Master Ruan was looking at the fluttering flags with a look of hatred on her face. She could have lived a comfortable life; she could have succeeded and risen to a greater level of cultivation if only these people had not caused trouble for her!
Master Ruan, however, soon calmed down. She looked at the army of the dead soldiers that she had created and scoffed. She was going to let Xien Zhenya leave this world without suffering any pain but since that woman didn’t appreciate it, then she had no reason to blame her!
“Rise, my army,” she said while chanting a spell as she raised her hand as well as the dagger in her hand. She then made a slash on her palm and let the blood fall on the array that she had drawn on the ground with the blood of a black dog.
The array started to glow and so did the army of the dead as they started to get back to their feet one by one. Soon, they were standing upright, holding the weapons in their hands and looking in the direction of the base.
Seeing the army rise, the sect master was satisfied. She commanded, “Go and kill those who dared to slay you when you were alive. Bring their heads to me, who have given you another chance at life!”
As soon as she finished commanding the army, they immediately stepped forward and started marching down towards the base.
Master Ruan sneered. She knew that what she was doing was unscrupulous, as the laws of war stated that one couldn’t attack their enemy after the sun sets but she was not afraid of the heavens.
If she was afraid of the heavens, she wouldn’t be practicing the dark arts!
Thus, why would she give face to the laws of heaven?
However, if Master Ruan had given the laws some respect, then the tragedy that she was about to face would have been avoided.
As the army of the dead soldiers approached the base, a soft tune started to echo in the silent surroundings, causing the undead soldiers to pause. Their pace slowed down and they tilted their heads collectively to one side before turning around and facing the direction in which Master Ruan was standing.
When Master Ruan noticed that the army of the dead was now looking in her direction, her eyes widened, and she realised that there was something wrong with how the situation was turning around.
She raised her hand and commanded the army of soldiers, “Go back! Go back and attack the base!” As she spoke, she didn’t forget to use the array to control the army of the undead.
But even when she used all her willpower and strength, she couldn’t turn the army of the undead soldiers around.
“What the —” Master Ruan was stunned when she saw the undead soldiers marching towards her, and only then did she realise that Xien Zhenya’s army also had a master and one who was stronger than her!
That Xien Xieren! She had fucked her up; why didn’t she tell her that Xien Zhenya was acquainted with a master so powerful?
