Ye Liu had long reached the end of his patience with the Ding family. It was bad enough that the mer named Gu Mo from their family was trying to snatch his wife from him and now that such a thing happened, they still wanted their wife to help them.

They had to be kidding him.

Old Master Ding opened his mouth to say something but his sleeves were tugged by his wife who glared at him and shook her head.

They couldn’t offend the Yu family. Not only were they the owner of this village but most of the properties in the entire village were under their jurisdiction. As long as they offended them, they would become the public enemy of the entire village.

And their situation was pathetic, to begin with!

Old Master Ding also knew that he could not offend Yu Dong or her family, thus he pursed his lips and swallowed his anger before saying, “Master Ye, I just want a decent place to stay. It is not like I am asking for too much, am I?”

“The only houses that are available are either those that are abandoned or not used by others,” Ye Liu stated with a snappy voice. “If you don’t pick any of them, what kind of house are you expecting us to hand you? Are you expecting us to make a house for you from scratch or something?”

Indeed Old Master Ding was planning for something like this to happen. He wanted to push the Village Head and Yu Dong into building a house for their family. He thought that as long as he promised to return the money, the two women would have no choice but to help his family.

As for whether or not he was going to pay? That remained to be seen as his family had no money to pay for anything!

They did not even have the money to pay for another pair of clothes! How would they pay for a new house?

How could Ye Liu not see through their disgusting antics? He snorted and said, “If that’s what you have in mind then it’s impossible. I am telling you that there is no way it is going to happen. The damage that happened to your house had nothing to do with the villagers.”

“Exactly!” Aunt Wang said from the side. She glanced at the Ding family and felt truly annoyed. She was fed up with their constant drama. If she had known that this family would become this troublesome, she would have made sure that Yu Dong never took their family in when they were running from the drought.

“That’s right. Why should the village help your family? It’s not like we burned your house down.”

“True..true. If anything, we should be blaming you since you brought that disgusting thing to our village. What a bad luck! Pei!”

Ding Nan was embarrassed by the constant berating and the contemptuous gazes of the villagers, she pulled the sleeves of her daddy’s robe and said to him, “Stop it.” She then turned to look at Yu Dong before saying, “Madam Yu, if you don’t mind.. can we stay in the small shack which is next to the shed?”

The shack was where the workers who were working in the shed lived.

Because Ding Nan had a house, she hadn’t taken a place in the shack which was given to her. However, now that the house was gone, she hoped that Yu Dong would let her stay in the shack.

Yu Dong pursed her lips, indeed there was a small shack which was allocated for Ding Nan and had yet to be handed to someone else.

“The shack is a bit small for your family,” said Yu Dong as she reminded Ding Nan of the size of the shack which was handed out to the workers.

“I know but it is better than living without a roof over our heads,” Ding Nan said with a tired face. She was truly done with her family and the mess, but she couldn’t just abandon them now that disaster had struck their family.

If she was to leave them alone at this point then certainly people would talk.

Old Master Ding parted his lips to object, he did not want to stay in the small shack. If they were to stay in the small shack, how were they going to survive? Their family was this big, if they stayed in that small house, then they would have no peace.

Not to mention they would have to take out money from their own pockets to build a house.

“Daddy stop it!” Ding Nan turned and looked at her father. She coldly stared at him before saying, “Can you not see? No one in the village is willing to help us. It is good enough that they don’t want to kick us out of the village. Can you sit still?”

Was this the time to cause trouble like this? The villagers were already against them, the reason they hadn’t thrown them out of the village was all due to the fact that she had a few children with her and she had helped the villagers a bit.

If not her daddy’s antics would definitely cause their family to be thrown out of the village.

Old Master Ding glared at his daughter. He was truly upset with how she was stopping him from saying anything. However, in front of others, he dared not to quibble with his daughter.

After all, he was still relying on his eldest daughter to survive.

Yu Dong glanced at the old mer who was huffing and puffing before saying to Ding Nan, “If you do not mind it then you can stay in the small house. However, we can only allocate the house under your name to you and not any other. After all, your family is not working in the animal shed.”

Ding Nan was even more embarrassed as she knew that Yu Dong was saying these things to her because of her family’s antics.

“Yes, of course, I understand,” Ding Nan dared not to say anything else and simply asked her husbands to deal with the luggage that was yet to be cleared up.

They had been standing outside their burnt house for a while now and Ding Nan could no longer wait anymore. She hadn’t slept for the entire night and was really tired not to mention her mer sons were so sleepy that they were swaying left and right.
