Chapter 796 796: Bloodline hierarchy

“Three-Eyed Three-Tailed Silver Fox? Where would you find such an extremely rare Arcane Beast?”, Ye Ling asked in shock.

“Mm, normally, I wouldn’t even bring it up since searching for one would be like searching for a specific grain of sand in a desert, perhaps even worse”, Fen Baihu nodded, “But while I was on the run, traversing to the Boundless Mortal World, I distinctly remember feeling the presence of one, and if it still hasn’t been discovered, it should not be too far away”

“It is worth a shot”, Wu Long nodded.

“Umm… I have two questions…”, Hua Ziyan softly raised her hand. She likely saw that the questions were on everyone’s mind but no one asked so she decided to.

“Of course, Ziyan”, Wu Long smiled gently, “I told you, you don’t have to ask for permission to ask questions”

A light blush appeared on her cheeks along with a shy smile as she spoke, tucking away a lock of hair behind her ear, “First is, of course, what is an Arcane Beast? And second is, how did Sister Baihu travel through Walls of Ascension that one supposedly can only go through in one direction if you are above a certain cultivation?”

“We’ll be discussing the Three-Eyed Three-Tailed Silver Fox later, so it is better to start with the second question”, Wu Long nodded, realizing he never explained it.

Fen Baihu spoke with a smile, “My 8th True Form allows me to freely travel between Words and Boundless Worlds without restriction. I was able to barely maintain the ability to take that form until I got to the Battle God’s Cradle…”

“…Which is why her injury became even more severe than it could have been had she not strained her Soul Bead by taking that form”, Wu Long chimed in, earning a look of narrowed pink eyes to which he playfully smiled, and then added, “By the way, there are certain, rare and very unconventional ways in which people of higher cultivation realms could end up in lower Boundless Worlds, one of which is a wormhole”

“Which is how I ended up in the Boundless Mortal World where I met Wu Long in my past life”, Ye Ling commented with a smile, “It is a spontaneous, very rare and in the absolute majority of cases very dangerous phenomenon, which momentarily bridges two Worlds that could be next to each other or in different Boundless Words, but for some reason never the Great Void, thankfully so”

“Dangerous?”, Cao Mei asked carefully.

“By itself it will not bring you harm. It is extremely stable, shockingly so for such a chaotic phenomenon, to the extent that even an ordinary mortal would be unharmed falling into one, and as you heard, only connects between Worlds, not the Great Void in between Worlds” Wu Long answered causing surprised looks toward him.

And then continued, “But since it is such an extremely rare occurrence, unbound by a specific area, and as far as we can tell, is completely random, coupled with the fact that the Great Wilderness is assumed to be – and almost certainly is – by several orders of magnitude or perhaps infinitely, vaster than all of the explored and settled cultivation world we know across all of Seven Boundless Worlds… statistically it is estimated that in 99% of cases a wormhole would drop you off in the depths of Great Wilderness so far away your chances of finding your way back to these lands are very, very low”

“The remaining 1% depends on luck, since one might end up in a higher and thus vastly more dangerous Boundless World, or could end up in a lower one. Though, because higher realm cultivators generally are able to avoid falling into one – as one generally should given the odds of landing in the Great Wilderness – such cases are so rare you could count them on fingers of both hands, me involuntarily being sucked into one when I was gravely wounded being one of them, though there might have been other unrecorded ones as well”, Ye Ling concluded.

As silence hung in the air after this explanation, Xue Bing shatterd both it and the dazed state of the beauties by asking bluntly, “What about the Arcane Beasts?”

“The hierarchy of Beasts, very generally and broadly, excluding the less important categories, usually goes from Legendary Beasts, to Mythical Beasts, then Spiritual Beasts, then Demonic Beasts, and then finally Beasts of Burden, with Wild Beasts at the very bottom, but those are usually not even included. The reason is not only in the power, but in bloodlines, since you can trace same bloodlines in all types of beasts, but the degree of purity is different”, Wu Long started the explanation.

“Don’t forget to mention the ‘almighty’ Dragons”, Fen Baihu interjected with a slightly spicy smirk and tone of voice.

“Hahaha, indeed, while the Dragon Race are technically categorized as Mythical Beasts, they do not accept being lumped in with anyone, and insist on being outside this hierarchy”, Wu Long lightly laughed, inwardly relieved there were no Dragons present to witness Fen Baihu’s attitude.

Ye Ling then picked up the explanation, “Arcane Beasts are one of the ‘less important categories’, and a peculiarity in this hierarchy because by their bloodline purity alone their position would be in between Mythical Beasts and Spiritual Beasts. And yet for whatever reasons they have significantly lower level of intelligence. It is not to say they are completely lack intellect, they are still significantly more intelligent than Demonic Beasts, Beasts of Burden and Wild Beasts, but not to the extent of being recognized as a Race of intelligent beings among the Seven Boundless Worlds”

“They are very rare in principle, far more rare than the last three Ling’er just mentioned. And since they are also technically not as important as the Legendary Beasts and Mythical Beasts, they are often omitted when discussing the Beast hierarchy”, Wu Long added.

“Three-Eyed Three-Tailed Silver Fox is a species of Arcane Beasts that is quite closely related to the specific fox kin family to which Celestial Foxes belong”, Ye Ling added.

“It possesses compatible abilities, close bloodline, and a special spiritual connection with my species, which is why I was able to sense it even being entire Worlds apart from it. If I were to establish a stable link with it, I would be able to use it as a medium to channel my powers remotely through it”, Fen Baihu finished the explanation.

“Is that something you read in ancient texts?”, Song Lingfei suddenly asked a slightly unexpected in the circumstances question, a certain guess lighting up her eyes with hope.

“No, I just know it through bloodline knowledge”, Fen Baihu shrugged.

“That…!”, Song Lingfei involuntarily raised her voice a bit out of excitement, and then making a soft cough into her small and delicate fist, apologized before asking again, “Can you please teach me more about that… bloodline knowledge?”

“Hmm, even if you ask, I’m not sure I can give you what you seek, or rather, I don’t exactly know if it can be taught, and if yes, how it can be taught. It is hard to explain… there are no words for it…”, Fen Baihu shook her head, speakin with an apologetic voice.

“Ah… I see. Thank you, my apologies for suddenly asking such a sudden request”, Song Lingfei sighed.

“No no, don’t apologize… I~…”, Fen Baihu’s tone became slightly nervous, waving both hands in front of her, as her eyes widened, turning to Wu Long as if fearing he will see it as her bullying Song Lingfei.

And at this moment…

“If it cannot be taught because of the constraints of language…”, Luo Mingyu who was hereto silent, elegantly placing her hand on her chin in thought, spoke up, “…perhaps it can be felt?”

As her words fell, several gazes turned to her with varying reactions, but most of which were a sudden realization of a blindspot in their thinking.
